A dark comedy, based on the best-selling novel by John Irving. The Berry family consists of married couple Win (Beau Bridges) and Mary (Lisa Banes) and their five children: John (Rob Lowe), Franny (Jodie Foster),

Frank (Paul McCrane), Lilly (Jennifer Dundas) and Egg (Seth Green). Together they run the Hotel New Hampshire in New England, but when Win's friend Freud (Wallace Shawn) asks them for help, they move operations to a hostelry in Vienna with the same name. There they are taken hostage when they stumble upon a plot to blow up the opera house.
