The movie begins with a story told by a young girl named Sarah about the legend of The Crow. The film gained instant notoriety even before its release when Lee was killed in an accident during filming. Because of this event, the film has gained a cult following over the years. It was also Brandon Lee's first (and ultimately, only) non-martial arts role on film.
Lee originally wanted the film to be shot in black and white in keeping with the comic and only have the flashback sequences in color. However, the producers disagreed.
